To have almost drowned in the unrelenting quagmire of our beleaguered healthcare system, was both painful and terrifying. True, I had heard people speak of the frustration and sense of helplessness in trying to advocate for a loved one. Never could I have imagined the inhumanity of it all. My 82 year old husband of 55 years had already endured multiple hospital stays; a preventable fall while at rehab; an eye-opening period at a free-standing hospice; the rigidity of Medicare, and no place to rest in peace. We were faced with the looming threat of a potential end-of-life-sentence in a nursing home riddled with multiple dangers. Would this unthinkable specter to be the tragic reality of his passing? I found myself wondering if anybody was there, if anybody cared, or if anybody could see what I saw? With my husband’s health steadily declining and our family physically and emotionally exhausted, we needed help. And then a lifeline to a dignified, gentle, respectful, and humane end-of-life experience presented itself to us. Save Haven is a unique personal care home in Lenox Park where hospice is able to deliver its services. In addition, patients are cared for round the clock by a dedicated staff who utilize careful consideration and respect in even the smallest detail. We visited daily and were always welcomed with warmth and a special kind of sincere affection that grew out of real caring. The home was immaculate, comfortable, secure, and bright. Indeed this was truly a Safe Haven where my husband was able to die with peace, grace, and his integrity. Safe Haven is very special place for both its residents and their families.

My father passed away last Thursday at the Safe Haven personal care home near Lenox. He struggled for many years with dementia and pain, but the last few weeks of his life at Safe Haven provided him with peace, comfort, and dignity. Safe Haven is as close to heaven as you can get - the staff is truly amazing and the home is clean, comfortable, and very well maintained. We are so grateful to have found Safe Haven at just the right time!

My family is so grateful that a place like Safe Haven exists. When you are faced with the decision of how to best care for a loved one, outside of your home, it feels like it's the biggest decision you may ever have to make. Somehow we found Safe Haven in our internet searches. Once we met with Alla, we knew this was the place for my Mom. Simply put, Safe Haven provides not only the highest quality care, but peace of mind that your loved one is safe, respected and loved. My mother was there for 7 mos and was part of their family from day 1. The caregivers at Safe Haven are extraordinary people, who do selfless work. My family is extremely grateful to everyone there for loving my mother and caring for her, like we would care for her, until her last days. Thank you so much!

My mother was a resident of Safe Haven, Lenox Park, from December 2020-May 2022. We moved her here from a facility in VA after my dad passed. When she arrived she was unable to walk, even with a walker. Within one month of living at Safe Haven, she was able to walk with assistance or a walker. The level of care she received at Safe Haven was outstanding. They really care about the residents and treat them like they are members of their families. The residents ate their meals “family style” and they were treated with respect and dignity. When my mother would visit our house on weekends, she would tell us she was ready to go home (not the facility!) when she was tired. We give Safe Haven the highest accolades for how they took care of our mother and highly recommend it to anyone considering a long term care facility.

My mother transferred here from memory care and assisted living after a fall that caused multiple fractures prohibited her from returning there. Having experienced the mayhem of corporate nursing homes during rehab stays, my siblings and I were determined to find a place for mom where she could receive individual care in a natural, home-like setting. After 6 moves in 3 years, we wanted the move to Safe Haven to be her last. Mom really did respond to the calm and loving environment there. She regained limited mobility, and enjoyed meals of home-cooked food at the dining room table. Although advanced dementia limited her ability to converse, she remained responsive to family and staff. We enjoyed visiting, especially when the weather was nice for walks outside or time in the garden. Of course no one knows your loved one better than you do, so advocacy for them is still vital. But stringent hiring typically maintained capable and empathetic caregivers. We owe a tremendous debt to Detra, the house manager. She is utterly devoted to each resident and does whatever is necessary as needs arise. She was quick to text or call if there were any concerns or questions. Her years of experience helped guide our family through those final months with comfort. I cannot think of any place else that my mother or family would have received such personal care.
