My parents were residents for 8 months and it was not a good experience. There were medication issues (late/missed), lack of housekeeping, staff sleeping in common areas during work hours, laundry room/garbage area cleanliness issues, broken down appliances, courtyard/outside spaces in disrepair, dismissive staff and resistence to outside providers for hospice care. The intergenerational living highlighted is very limited.

My mother-in-law lived at Vincentian Schenley Gardens in the memory care unit. The facility has been consistently short-staffed in the memory care unit—often with only one aide responsible for 14 residents. This level of staffing leads to delayed care, long response times, and visible strain on the staff who are present. These issues have been ongoing, not temporary lapses. Despite repeatedly raising concerns with management, we found them uncooperative and unwilling to take meaningful action. Instead of solutions, we received dismissive responses and little follow-through. Had it not been for a private duty aide we arranged for my mother-in-law, her comfort and well-being would have been severely compromised. Families entrust loved ones to facilities like this with the expectation of safe, attentive care—an expectation that Vincentian Schenley Gardens has not met. While some staff members are hardworking and caring, the chronic understaffing and lack of accountability from management make this an unsafe and unreliable choice. We have since moved my mother-in-law to another facility where the staff-to-resident ratio is appropriate and residents’ needs are met with care and attentiveness. It is also worth noting that many positive reviews appear to have been written by staff in an effort to boost ratings, which makes it difficult for families to rely on Google reviews when making such an important decision.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Vincentian Schenley Gardens. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth, professionalism, and a true sense of community. The staff here goes above and beyond to ensure that residents receive not just exceptional care, but genuine love and respect. What sets Schenley Gardens apart is their person-centered approach towards residents--they take the time to know each resident as an individual, tailoring care to their preferences and needs. The communication with families and caretakers is also excellent and I know people feel reassured knowing their loved ones are in such capable and caring hands. Highly recommend!

My mother has been at Schenley Gardens for over a year. She needs significant help with many functions of daily living and aldo has dementia. She is well taken care of - staff is friendly, attentive and caring. Her room is kept very clean and laundry is done well. Medicines are given as perscribed. She is in a wheelchair and is taken to meals and activities. Unlike other places, I do not have to hire my own help. Mom can be well taken care of by the Schenley Gardens staff. Her apartment is very nice - bright and modern (newly refurbished). The large handicapped shower is fantastic. I am very happy and grateful that my Mother's is in a place that takes care of all of her needs. If you are reading reviews, you may want to check the dates. I understand that the management in place now is relatively new and things were not so good a number of years ago. I have found the current management very responsive, available and on top of things.

My sisters and I moved our mother from Virginia to Schenley Gardens in March 2024 following the life changing process of a dementia diagnosis. We looked at dozens of places in the DC metro and Pittsburgh area, as we knew it was important she be within close proximity to one of us. In the end, Vincentian Schenley Gardens was chosen for four main reasons: - The location - The cost - The vibe/ feeling we got when we toured - It being run by a Catholic nonprofit (my mother is very Catholic) We have not for a day regretted our choice. The staff are responsive and communicative, they treat my mother well, and have provided her with a supportive, understanding community. It is absolutely not perfect, but to me the primary gauge of a quality place is not if mistakes are made, but rather how they are addressed. When there is an issue, the staff step up and immediately take action to fix the scenario as best they can. I know staffing in this industry can be challenging, but they seem to be navigating this in a manner that minimizes the impact on my mother's experience. This is a great community with solid leadership. Everything my mom needs is provided and my sisters and I don't have to worry about her being unsafe or going bankrupt. From a cost benefit analysis, everywhere cheaper drastically sacrifices quality and everywhere more expensive is pretty on par from our perspective as it relates to the quality of services. This is a great place for our mother and we're glad she's been able to thrive there the past year.
