The care my mother received while living 2+ years at the Meadows (assisted living) was quite good. The aides and nurses genuinely did care about her well-being (although one of her necklaces did walk away at some point). The same can't be said about the management hence the negative review. I'm well aware it's a business, but when she passed, there was no acknowledgment from management – not even a card or how to clear out the unit (which they still charge for even at death). We were never able to have a meal with her in the dining hall (even if we paid for it) as their policy didn't allow it. Social activities are available if one wants to partake in them. Maintenance, like having a light bulb replaced, was spotty and required numerous calls. With the price exceeding $12,000/month, there are other facilities that are definitely worth looking into. Also, make sure that anything of value is NOT kept at any facility where other people have access to the unit.

Helen gets the care she is needing however dut to the frequent changes of nurses on her floor and very few on weekends, ther are times when we must ask for her to get the help she needs. However, all in all, she is well taken care of and safe in that environment. As for the question of price, I have nothing to compare it to, but I do have an issue with being charged extra for her laundry being done (so I do it at home), extra charges though minimal for use of a TV and telephone. There are also charges for OTC meds prescribed for my wife and I am being charged by the pharmacy rather than it being added to the monthly fee. Management from the very top down at the Meadows, is excellent and always keeps an open mind to concerns that I as the husband of my wife with Alzheimers may have. Paul Weininger

Awful facility! Don't even try to communicate with Dan Freed. He is controlling and not at all empathetic. My mom was in there in 2021. She got the worst wounds you can imagine and one day, I received a call from one of the staff members claiming that my mom was "refusing" to get up for her therapy. I could hear her screaming! I mean screaming!!! I directed the person to call 911 to get her to the ER and that is when we discovered the wounds on her back side (6 inches long and as deep as a golf ball) and a bad one on her heel too, that subsequently took me over a year to help her heal from while she was healing from back surgery (I had to take off from work for more than a year). Three times a week to the wound center with each visit costing $1,000 because of the fact that the wound doc said she could not sit at all until the wounds were healed so we had to go by ambulance. Nightmare! How do these places still have 5 stars on the Medicare website?

There have been numerous times where I've debated writing a review, I don't like doing "take-down" posts as I believe that people and businesses can change and deserve second chances. However, this is not the case for The Meadows at Shannondell. A family friend, whom I'm deciding to remain anonymous for his protection and safety, was placed in the care of Shannondell. Throughout his time, he faced brutality from the staff. When his daughter tried to complain, she was also met with rude staff members and horrible customer service. Neither of them wanted me to write this, but for the protection and care for others, I've decided to. Do not, under any circumstances, send your family members here. There are many horror stories that can be told, and my family friend is still very traumatized even after weeks of being discharged from their care. Pick a better home for your family- not The Meadows.

Elder abuse and manipulation, we would not recommend. Left my grandfather in their care after a hip replacement surgery only for him to be in more pain than when he broke his hip. Throughout his stay he has complained several times about being ignored and requests not being heard because he has already been assisted, or that he simply already took his medicine and he is being dramatic. Previous reviews mention negligent staff and management, and I would like to report that years later that is still very much so the case. Uncle Steve’s words not mine, “I rather you’d have sent me out to the meadows instead”.
