At first the my Mother's care was good, but soon dropped off. They didn't check on her everyday 2 hours as promised in the care contract. I had private caregivers stay a few hours with her everyday because of that. She fell twice in onw day and broke her hip. After surgery on her hip she was in a wheelchair (94 years old) and they still insisted she could come back to live there and be taken care of. I ended the contract and moved her to skilled nursing at Adam's place.

The Rutherford Memory Care has been a God-send for my mother. The homelike atmosphere, the welcoming and warmhearted staff, and the amazing and diverse activities planned for the residents has made her transition from her home with me to her home at The Rutherford seamless and pleasant. Every time I visit her, she is happy and content. A big THANK YOU to all at The Rutherford Memory Care!

Disorganized, under-staffed, high staff turnover, cleaning the room was pretty much up to us apart from removal of trash in baskets. Poor communication system (I was once with mom when she pressed the intercom button four or five times over a period of 40 minutes without anyone responding). subjection of residents to 13-minute ear-piercing emergency alarm tests (director was conveniently not there when I experienced a recent one). Food was pretty good for an institution if you took the main plate and were served in the dining room but poor organization and follow-through for special needs and preferences. Reporting between nurses and assistants between shifts seemed minimal if existant since several times care - givers did not seem to be aware of turns of health or special needs; this may be due in part to the frequent use of temp nurses. Why didn’t we take mother to a different place? Her room was nice, except for plumbing/air-duct (?) noises, with good natural light from windows ; we were afraid of stress resulting from a new move ; we heard from nursing assistants and other professional care givers who’ve worked in several nursing homes in the areas that all were plagued with similar low quality of service (including Adam’s Place); mother’s long- term health insurance would not give adequate coverage for home - care (while fully covering the costs at the Rutherford !); we had the fortune of having an outside assistant who could give good care to mom twice a week ; we were able to be with her or at least talk with her just about every day.

My mother is happy here. There are activities and short day trips every week. The transition would have been smoother with some type of orientation.

My mom has been at The Rutherford for several years now. The staff take very good care of her and are always respectful of her needs. The Administrator, Vicky and Director of Nursing, Brooke always make sure I am notified of any changes or needs with mom. The RAs are always happy to see mom and happy to assist her with her needs. The facility is clean and maintained, the kitchen staff is proactive is making meals mom will eat. The ladies at the front desk are very kind and always willing to do anything to help. Tamika, the Activities Director makes an effort to include mom in activities whenever possible. And of course the wonderful nursing staff work hard to ensure the facility runs smoothly! Vicky and Brooke have made The Rutherford a wonderful place for their residents and truly treat them like family. I could not think of a better place for mom to be than with her Rutherford family!
