Juniper Village is the best care facility I have ever found for dementia residents. Several of my family members have had dementia, so I have visited many facilities over the years for comparison. It is such an emotional task to place a loved one in a care facility- but there are several things that made my decision to choose Juniper Village for my wife less painful. The primary asset of Juniper Village is its staff. All the people who work at Juniper, from the CEO/administrators to the caregivers, healthcare workers, cooks, and maintenance workers know the individual residents by name and speak to them frequently throughout the day. Many of the staff have been employed at Juniper for several years. It is like one big family, with staff filling in or looking out for others as needed. This kind of consistent involvement is reassuring to those with dementia, as well as their families. The physical layout of the facility is great for residents. The four individual “houses” have two caregiving staff at all times for their 13 residents. This is a very efficient for getting residents up in the mornings and to bed in the evenings, and managing meals and medications. The administrative offices and activities room are in the center of the facility with a “house” on each corner. A large internal hallway goes around the building, connecting all the houses. This makes a great walkway where residents don’t get lost and can walk at any time. There is also a large contained outdoor courtyard that is wonderful for providing fresh air and sunshine. The facility feels spacious. It is not always apparent what kind of behaviors will develop as our loved ones decline from dementia. There is nothing worse than being told by a facility that you have to remove your loved one for behavior problems that you never anticipated! This has happened to many of us. The solution to that is having a well trained and qualified staff to manage the inevitable behavior-related cognitive changes. Juniper Village has a nurse on site at all times and a set of doctors/providers that make weekly rounds. This is in invaluable. When a problem behavior or health condition arises, the staff are very proactive in addressing it. This might just involve redirection, but it may also indicate need for medication changes- and the Juniper staff are on top of that. The oversight is just so much more immediate and appropriate than I have seen in any other care facility. Residents who can participate are guided in exercise, craft, and music activities. Those who can’t participate are well cared for in their house or watched over in the common areas. Residents are allowed to be themselves as much as possible and their individual personalities and needs are accommodated. I really appreciate the thought put into this entire care community. My wife, who has Alzheimer's, has been in Juniper Village for a year now. Although it is very sad to see her decline, I take heart knowing she is getting kind, compassionate and appropriate care in a very safe environment. And Juniper facilitates a family support group on-site that I have found very valuable. The entire experience at Juniper confirms we are not alone in this journey.

So thankful for the Juniper team at Louisville. I've had the privilege of working with Alison and Ryan recently. They were both kind, professional, and really went upon and beyond in caring for the residents that they serve. I highly recommend them! Thank you Juniper : )

Juniper Village is truly an outstanding memory care community. Their “neighborhood” layout creates a warm, familiar, and easy‑to‑navigate environment for residents, which makes such a meaningful difference for those living with dementia. Each area feels welcoming, thoughtfully designed, and centered around comfort and dignity. The staff are exceptional—compassionate, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable about dementia care. They take the time to understand each resident’s unique needs and provide support with genuine kindness. It’s clear that this team is dedicated not just to safety, but to helping residents feel valued, engaged, and at home. If you’re looking for a memory care community where your loved one will be treated with respect, empathy, and professional expertise, Juniper Village stands out in every way.

First of all, I’ll say that looking for the best memory care facility is not a position that you really want to be in. But you have to do it. All ranges of emotions are taking place regarding your loved one and their care, but I found that finding the right memory care for my wife lifted at least some of those emotional burdens. My wife was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia 12 yrs ago at age 56. I retired 6 yrs ago to provide her with full-time care at home. A year ago, as symptoms progressed, I added home care to give me four mornings a week free to take care of myself, but I knew I would need to find a place for her when she needed full-time care. So I embarked on a journey, first online, and then in person tours to find the best spot for her. And that turned out to be Juniper Village at Louisville, by far! I had seen facilities that did some memory care, but mostly they focused on assisted care or skilled care. Or if they only did memory care, you would see the typical nursing home look - a central open space with everyone just sitting there, or lying in bed in their rooms. When I visited Juniper for the first time it blew me away. The first impression is a clean, professional, home-like atmosphere without the huge dining room and endless hallways that you usually see. The “Small House” concept is just that – 14 residents in each of four “homes”, on the four corners of the facility – each with its own kitchen, small dining area and TV room; and all private rooms. Everyone is out doing things, not sitting in their room. Activities are nicely scheduled with every resident encouraged to participate. The central hallway is great for walking or they can go out to the large outdoor patio and garden area in the back. The place has energy and activity with the staff showing that they really love what they do. If you need something, nursing staff and aides are easily accessible and are friendly, caring and professional. My wife has been a resident now for two months and she’s doing well. But also I feel that I’ve fit in as well and it’s become a highlight of my day to go over for a visit.
