Somerford Place

I visited while looking for a Memory Care facility for my wife. I was very impressed with what I saw of the facility, set-up, the rooms, and the staff. We did not end up going here, only because there is a memory care facility 3 minutes away from my home, where Somerford is 20 minutes. But it was still a close decision. Sales Counselor Andrew was especially informative and engaging. He very much represented the facility well. We met for about 45 minutes and reviewed my wife's needs and what Somerford had to offer. This was my 4th facility to visit and by now I had very specific questions to ask and already knew the "typical" responses that other memory care facilities gave. Andrew's responses were within line, or better, than at other facilities. He was able to give detail when I asked for it, and I did. We took a facility tour, and again, I was impressed. The individual rooms seemed larger than average, and Somerford had a "model room" set up that looked terrific. As we walked, I made special efforts to look at the staff interacting with residents, before the staff noticed us. In both circumstances the staff were consistently friendly, smiled, and interacted warmly with residents and Andrew and me. Another feature I really appreciated was the presence of Fox Rehab staff on site. Over the past few years my wife has had several in-home therapy sequences with Fox Rehab staff, all who were terrific. Having them on site is a big positive for Somerford. The rates were comparable to the other facilities I visited. Again, I can only comment on what I learned from a couple of phone calls and the on-site visit that lasted a bit longer than an hour. But if I did not have a comparably good facility 3 minutes away from my home, I would have no reservations about having my wife go to Somerford.

If you are looking for a place for your loved one, I am sure you have looked all around and have seem many reviews. I was in that same place you are a couple of years ago and started working with a placement team to find a facility for my mother, as it is not an easy thing to come to terms with that you are not able to give the level of care for someone that you love. You want to find the best and safest facility for them. We looked at many of the facilities in northern Delaware and came back to Somerford, a couple of times and when we knew that was the place for her the team at Somerford made it an easy transition. I cannot say enough about how grateful I am for the top-notch care that my mother gets every day and how the staff treats all the residents with respect. The management and nursing teams are so supportive and very responsive. They have so many activities to keep the residents engaged and happy. So, if you are looking for the best place for a loved one, you will find it at Somerford Newark.

My mom has been there 18 months and while Somerford has had some turnover at the management level, the current team is amazing and the care provided has improved tremendously. She is now getting the care she needs and is always happy when I visit. She is participating in so many events and events has group outings. Save yourself time and start your search at Somerford. They are the best in the state of Delaware!!

I had to find a place for my Father. It is a huge responsibility. A tough choice. I found Somerford House. It was the best of the five facilities I considered. He is happy and safe. He feels special and cared for. The food is good . The room is nice. The place is clean and well kept. His doctor comes in. They even have a hair dresser to cut his hair on site The staff is excellent. They all go above and beyond. My favorite part is the activities. Each day they have a schedule. At first my father stayed in his room and did not participate. However the folks kept trying and coaxed him out. He participates in the activities. Singing, games of all sorts He has fun. I find myself staying and participating in the activities. They have had an antique car show, a BarB Q. They even take them out for lunch and to out side activities.I would highly recommend this facility..

After an indepth search and tours of surrounding facilities, we found Somerford House to be THE best. Our our mother with late stage alzheimer needed full memory care facility. The transition from out of state to here was smooth. The management team really helped every step. She is now getting the care she needs and seems to be happier then she has been in years. She is participating in so many events and events has group outings. She got some much needed physical therapy and is doing far better than I ever would have expected.
